Domaine du Vissoux / Pierre-Marie Chermette
Pierreux Brouilly Gamay

Okay so I LOVED their Les griottes rosé. If I were into greener flavors like the cab franc loving clientele of east side LA I'd be down but...I like a riper more berry rich gamay. In terms of other elements, as I suspected, Chermette is on point: the smooth mellow tannins, the sharp acid and the hint of some berries ripening are for the most point balanced. Maybe I got this too late and the berries should be brighter. Maybe it is too soon and the green pepper should mellow. Not sure, but I'm not giving up on Chermette as I have loved most everything I've had before from them.

Sort of a bruiser. On the nose, almost Rhône-like with some cracked pepper and smoke, along with typical Gamay flowers and fruit. In the mouth, some decent structure, acid, and dark fruit. Medium-long finish. Needed at least an hour to open. However, after 3 hours lost something. Awkward stage for this wine. Either should have been opened earlier, or needs a year or two to round out the edges.

A classic case of Brouilly showing too much unruly fruit without the restraint and balance. Still more refined than most.
