Domaine du Tunnel (Stéphane Robert)
St. Péray Roussanne
The nose is so refined as it should be as this is the most refined producer of St. Peray. The elegance is what stands out here and the classiness. Nose has some gras, rich fruits but is so gorgeously floral and granitic. Yellow creamed corn (garmanbozia?) as well. Palate is just so refined. Palate is elegant and grinds you down in the best way with the hardcore grind house roussane minerally. Juicy and so classy. Palate staining length. Shows the richness of the vintage but is perfectly bisected by the Tunnel St. Peray style. So focused. Needs air. But a promising start.

Apr 16th, 2023Always so brilliant. Custard, honey, spice, yellow florals and a deep background of granitic minerality. So so complex. A hit of dried honey. Palate is so elegant. Like, wow levels of elegance. Concentrated and juicy, with a beautiful core of apricot fruit and lovely vanilla extract and honeysuckle. Stunning purity and depth. Stunning minerality. Wow. Let’s see what air does? Maybe my score goes higher.

Oct 30th, 2022Have not met a wine Stephane makes that I haven’t liked. Vibrant, charming, full of Rhône texture and fresh. Incredibly spiced, making it super enjoyable at the table with food but also plays to an aperitif role with it’s sheer drinkability

May 2nd, 2021Much lighter bodied than I had expected, though still a gorgeous wine with aromas of peach, stone fruits and a mineral palate. Good length. Pleasing.

Jun 22nd, 2020So fresh and enjoyable, captures the delicious melange of fruit, textural weight, and earthy/floral notes that make this varietal so unique but in a refreshing package that begs for another sip. Quite sleek and thoughtful in its approach.

Mar 22nd, 2019Great. More later.
On day 2 the nose is rich and full of gras, exotic fruits and intense minerality. Little bit of new wood peeking through as well. Palate is juicy, round and so clear. Brilliant clarity on this. Lovely finish and stunning purity here. 9.4 to 9.5.
