La Marginale Saumur-Champigny Cabernet Franc
Raspberry leaf, white pepper and sandalwood nose. Raspberry, white cherry brightness in check that carries to mid palate (chewy texture) and finish is smooth and balanced. TBL

Sep 24th, 2022Raspberry, cassis, tapenade, herbs, wilted flowers, tobacco, graphite, potting soil, manure and animal hide, steel. Livid, deep, unwinding with aeration. Fresh tannin, melds soif and seriousness nicely. Finish drops out a touch

Sep 26th, 2021Comparing a couple 2011 Loire Cab Francs this weekend. Was lucky to grab a half case of back-vintage Thierry Germain from Kermit a year or two ago. These wines (whites and reds) have without fail all been very very reserved, closed, and speaking very quietly. This started off quite mute but after an hour or two in the decanter started to call out with some very pretty notes of star anise, Chinese five spice, mint, fennel, and really lovey berry notes. Elegant and expressive once it opens up. These wines need TIME and then they need AIR. I’ve got a couple more reds that I’ll probably forget about for a few years. Enjoyed with NY Strip and thyme-roasted root veggies.

Mar 30th, 2020Expressive clean nose of forest floor, herbaceous notes and red berries. Fine acidity and subtle oak. High acidity and medium bodied. The character of the variety well expressed at his homeground

Aug 19th, 2019Lots of soul. (I meant soil but I like soul too so thanks Siri) good cab franc character. Deep fruit and a touch of herbs. This drinks beyond its price point. Really rustic yet modern at the same time. Clean but funky. It's tough to say. I can say like it a lot!

Jan 24th, 2019Great nose. Beautiful cassis and berry fruit. Some beautiful minerality. Amazingly layered and detailed. Superbly mineral and earthy and wonderful layered and deep aromas. Stunning, really. Juicy with crisp acids and so much fruit and a taut structure. Long finish that dissipates beautifully.

Jan 12th, 2019An old friend who aged faster than me. Stubbornly closed aromatically with the faintest dark fruit, spearmint, and tobacco peeking through. Bright cranberry and black cherry hit up-front with a hint of earthy leather and tobacco on the thin but lingeringly tangy finish. Dregs show the fruit density and green peppercorn that this wine once had. A few years past prime, but still pleasant and a nice pair for a beef tenderloin. #saumur #cabernetfranc #loire
