A surprisingly gorgeous evening in DC tonight at a favorite classic bistro. This Giggie has loads of ripe fruit, but is drinking really well already. Very soft, decent acids. Some savory notes. The alcohol (15%) pooks through on the back half of the palate. But it was served a little warmer than I’d like, so that probably amplified it.

Cote du Rhône Gigondas. Vin puissant, délicieux avec une cote de boeuf Black Angus.

Consistently solid Gigondas year in and year out. In my mind, one of the best out there for the money. Raspberry cordial, fig, roasted cashew, chamomile tea.

At first really strong dark bitter chocolate. Even some cough syrupy. But then it opens up and gets ripe fruit. It is a remarkably strong for a 13 year old wine. It’s better the 2nd day. But maybe just decant for 1-2 hours next time. 11.99 at K&L would get again.

Garnet with no darkening on the rim. Blueberry and raspberry chocolate with chewy tannins. Yummy.

Lovely notes of cedar, gravel, and ripe fruits. Full mouth feel of ripe red cherry with tobacco. Really amazing this! Love! Nicely balanced, and just a bit tart. Clean finish. Where's the checkbook? Need a case of this beauty!

Smoky cured meats and black pepper on the nose as well as dried herbs, oregano in particular. Then, to taste, so much strawberry, Hi-C, then white pepper. Inoffensive tannins. Went with the filet mignon tonight. Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎁
