Crozes-Hermitage Syrah

Odd and not sure why.

Big dark berry goodness. Well balanced and a smooth drinker. But too much on the fruity side and not enough Crozes character.

Maximum flavor, minimal alcohol. Clean, straightforward Syrah: raspberry, black olive, herbs, smoked meats, meat juices. Intense, persistent minerality. Elegant. Combier’s best Crozes of the ‘10s. #combier #crozeshermitage #syrah

The first whiff of a glass is that telltale Northern Rhône Syrah scent of red meat and flowers. It's a voluptuous set of aromatics over more nuanced shades of tarragon and sun-warmed terracotta. With time the scent of ripe berry fruits emerge. A sip is pure, spiced loganberry that slowly uncoils to a lengthy finish of light roast espresso. Fire up the (lump charcoal) grill and throw on the kebabs.

Can a wine get much more crowd-pleasing? Big stewed fruit, but not jammy. Conscientiously made. Great value for a dinner party...interesting enough for wine geeks, bouncy and fruity for those who just wanna drink.

Rustic and bright. If served blind, you'd guess Syrah from Northern Rhone immediately. Love to try again with 10 more years of age. SS
