Charmes Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay

The 2017 Meursault Les Charmes 1er Cru has a serious, taut, mineral-driven bouquet, one of the most understated within the lineup of Charmes. The palate is taut and linear like the nose, a doppelgänger for a Puligny-Montrachet, brimming with tension and energy but with just a little shrillness on the finish that will have to be addressed with bottle maturation. What a sublime example of a white Burgundy. All the fantastic austere minerality, but with all the perfect balance with acidity, apple blossom and grapefruit. Truly impressive.

Subdued fruit, mineral nose; good intensity, but lean palate with fruit underneath. Glass two hours on much improved. Needs time. (Sommelier recommended this bottle.)

2016/3/9 This is at a very good place now. Can be enjoyed out of bottle. Dried white flowers, flinty minerals, super yummy when cold. Although after a few hours, it was shutting down again.
