Diamond Creek Vineyards
Volcanic Hill Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Settled and savory. A bit dilute. Nice balance but soft and tastes literally diluted

Jan 18th, 2023Dark brooding color, opaque with lighter rims. Tight nose, hard to get a read. Notes of red fruit and raspberries, kirsch, cola and some ash comes on later. Nicely made juice, it’s well balanced. While it opened up some over the night, it was tough to get a read on this. I could only come up with mid 90s Napa Cab. Still, this is a wine lover’s wine and our ribeyes went well with this and the other bottles tonight.

Jul 22nd, 2022Remarkable how this has held together considering the abuse the bottle when through. A light green quality runs through suggesting it may have been quite angular in its youth. A very delicate black fruit quality and rich tannins still running through.

Jun 25th, 2022Rustic. Holding together. Leather. Still tannic. Pencil lead. Ghosts of black cherries and plums. Won the cork lottery!

Mar 31st, 2021A Thanksgiving miracle! Was so worried that this bottle corked by the staining on the cork, but is all ended well! The fruit is barely there on this bottle from my favorite vineyard (Volcanic Hill) from Diamond Creek. Still an immense presence and complexity after decanting for 4 hours. Time had made this bottle a little more delicate than the others, but unmistakable Diamond Creek. Glasses were raised to Al and Boots as the vineyard has now been bought by Roederer. I believe it is in food hands.

Dec 5th, 2020HFS—maybe the best mature Napa Cab I have ever had and I have had a lot. Plus the wine is still in great shape. From an era when wine was balanced going into the bottle.
kudos to Al, RIP. Bought this bottle at my first wine job in 1986.
