Dec 22nd, 2020From our friends at Salon, this sparkler is 90% grand gru Chard with the balance in red grapes and it smells like it too. It has a great yeasty Chard nose with hints of lemon and reminds me of an English-style cuvée with its toasty notes with great lemon backing acid. Though labelled brut this is more at brut nature so lean is the dosage. I love it: shuck some oysters and lets get after it!

Delamonte is a sister house to Salon. This 07 has little or no Salon grapes as Salon surprisingly did make an 07 vintage champagne. In a difficult Salon vintage, Salon grapes can make it into the Delamonte. Bruised apple cider, green apple, overripe Bosc pear, pineapple rhine, citrus blend(tangerine dominated), butterscotch candy, toffee, citrus blossoms, brioche, bright acidity & wet sandy chalk/minerals and a long, long, long finish. It's 9.1 but seriously pushing 9.2.

Pale gold. Interplay of cultured cream and papaya with lemon, golden apple and tea rose follow through. Specks of lime scent swirl, discombobulated in the frozen, underripe pineapple expanse. Toasty frame drops quickly in a lemon and lime juice flume made of sterling silver. Kafir leaves in lightest brine add a minerality that defines the space including a real suggestion of white pepper on the finish. Despite the description, this is not overly racy, instead, relying on its needles and pins to deliver the concentrated citric doses with precision. Finely ground chalk and salt rock it’s high mark. .

So round and suave with razor sharp acid. Loads of mid palate here, great length. Not a bad drop of bubbly. Rich pomaceous fruit, sweet cream, brioche, button mushrooms, crumbled chalk. ‘04s from Cdblanc are drinking so well right now
