Decoy
Duckhorn Portfolio California Cabernet Sauvignon
California, USA

I don’t usually have an Impossible Burger... but when I do, it’s a Decoy! The burger exceeded expectations. Might have been worthy of the Duckhorn Merlot.

A crowd pleasing Cali cab. Vanilla and plum aromas, some cigar too. Dark berry flavors, quite simple. Drinks lightly with a medium body, low acidity, and velvety finish but I’m slightly put off by some residual sweetness. That’s just my preference though, I know many people will really enjoy this.

I’ve had some inconsistencies with these Decoys bottles but this one holds up. Presents as a typical cab to me with a bit more sweetness.

Mar 15th, 2025Worthy California Cab that goes toe to toe with Napa bottles costing three times as much. Tasty blend of dark fruit, muscular tannins and Cabernet minerality: a great steak wine. Pleasant nose giving a preview of what’s to come, with a solid finish featuring notes of graphite and cocoa—just delicious. Enjoyed the 2020 vintage with bone-in ribeye at The Palm Restaurant, celebrating my son Robert’s 22nd birthday.
