We last had a bottle on 11th July 2020 and this time it showed better. Red savoury fruits mainly cherry and a plum skin note. Still with that burnt bracken note which is not unattractive. On the palate like Bass Phillip but more succulent. The Macedon Ranges just north of Melbourne is a proven good area for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay - a neighbour being the highly credentialed Bindi Wines.

Dense crimson in colour. Aromatics of red fruits with a burnt bracken note. Medium plus intensity on a medium weight palate showing savoury plum notes. Finishes with fine yet firm tannins. An ok Pinot but I have had better examples of Curly Flat.

Mid Ruby - good clarity. Aromas of strawberries and burnt, tarry notes. On the palate quite fleshy with strawberries and sappiness. Medium minus bodied but with medium plus intensity. Silky mouthfeel. An exciting and different Pinot Noir. Tasted again 11 weeks later on 12th December 2019 with similar notes. A good balance between sweet and savoury fruit characters. Excellent.

Normally a first class Pinot but in the difficult 2011 vintage this is watery and lacks power. Like an average Burgundy Villages but do not judge Curly Flat on this vintage.

heaps of folks bag the 2011 vintage from #victoria #australia but Phillip knows how to coax goodness from a less than ideal #vintage. may not last as long as other years, but it is elegant & eminently enjoyable, with bright red fruit & earthy savouriness.

Yes. A full flavoured Pinot. Really well balanced and showing really well with almost ten years of age. Classic.

Sample half bottle. The bouquet is relatively closed, although with time, that will correct itself. The palate is dominated by red fruits (cherry, strawberry) with serious drive, length and intensity. The spicy oak inputs are enveloped seamlessly by the fruits. This one's sure to go places. Easy to see why it's an Aussie icon.

What a pleasure. Curly Flat with some age. Showing beautiful, developed (and classic) sous bois character. Vibrant spine of acidity and gorgeous core of fruit. Absolutely bloody delicious.
