Classic Mez Morgon nose of deep black cherry, cracked pepper, minerals and blueberry. Smells deep. Palate is chewy, dense and ripe with tons or structure. Very pure and deep as the nose suggests. Superb density and concentration. This is delicious but needs 2-3 hours open and has 15+ years ahead of it. Always epic at Clos de Mez

Big plummy Gamay nose. Violets as well and some nice wet earth tones. Glorious full blown Mez. I love these wines and I know they can be polarizing but I love them. What a nose. Big mineral spine on top of all those plums. Big, juicy, ripe and with some serious tannins and fruit. Long finish. Super intense minerality and exquisite balance. Needs 5-6 years but more approachable young than past vintages. Truly old school and phenomenal Morgon. I'm sure this will evolve over the next 3-4 days.

I am hard-pressed to rate this wine. It's so atypical, but this estate's wines are reputed to take years to round into form. Right now, I mostly get a sense of highly-extracted minerality, with only a little fruit showing-- although it's interesting, highly-confectionary red fruit. And that's on the SECOND NIGHT!. As an unabashed fan of traditionally-styled Bojos, I really don't know where this will end up. But from reputation, I guess it's early in that journey. Right now it's intellectually interesting but not that pleasurable.

UPDATE (night 4): I left about 1/4 of the bottle until now, and, as reputed, it is more pleasurable and demonstrative now. Very pure, confectionary plum/ripe cherry juice fruit in the nose, and there's even a whiff of Bourbon (without the alcohol). Minerality still there but playing a supporting role now. Plus there's a feral/animal tang. Still tannic, but they've softened. This is sui generis, so don't compare it to anything, especially Beaujolais, or you're doing it a disservice. Day 4 rating 9.2. Age this puppy for several years.

Gloriously wet, lovely and ready to party, multiorgasmic at 2 hour decant. Drink and explore hedonism.

Inviting like dinner in a dark cold castle. An experience if you're up for a challenge. Mountain Gamay as deeply bleak and structured as I've ever come across.

This is reserved, but if you give it a few hours, a few days, the tannin starts to break, the fruit starts to smile, and the underlying character begins to show.

Deep inky purple core. Smells like graphite, pencil, and cherries. On day three there's plum, chocolate, coffee, and cedar. Strong scaffolding - tannins and minerals that make your tongue move.

Shame on me and my patience because this is way too young.

Just a ridiculous value at <$25 from fass selections. Definitely agree that this is a long-lived wine - this is at its best 4+ hours into decanting, before that the tannins are a bit chewy. But a great example of a Morgon from one of my favorite Beaujolais vintages. Subtle aromatics with great mouthfeel and nice red fruit. Great pairing with a roast Provençal style chicken. Quite seamless after much air and very nice.

Funky nose, went from wet neoprene to sulfur to milk chocolate to something jammy and candied within 2 hours.
