Plums that are still smelling pretty fresh despite their 10 years. Some tobacco and dry dirt. Tannin, acid, and alcohol are pretty harmonious.

Tonight I have opened the 2005 Chateau Larrivaux. 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 4% Petit Verdot.

The aromas are of black currant, blackberry, licorice, spice, and minerality.

The palate gives notes of black cherry, plum blackberry, spices, black pepper and minerality.

There is medium acidity, medium + sandy tannins with a medium mouth feel and medium finish. Not a bad wine for its age. With its good acidity and tannins has at least several more years.

Excellent and approachable left bank Bordeaux. Well balanced with plum and tannins.

Deep cherry and plumb. Moderately acidic. Legs for days. Great afternoon Bordeaux.

Mmmm. Smells like coffee, toffee, slight herbs - bay leafs? Palate is simpler than I expected, but good mouthfeel, smooth tannins, tasty. Good stuff.

It’s moved into more brooding darkness in the past few years. Black fruit and a bit of spice, earthy notes, menthol and a touch of liquorice. A little short on the depth and finish, but it’s nice drinking.
