La Comme Santenay 1er Cru Chardonnay

~My inaugural hosting dinner~

Mineraly, slightly oily, herbaceous, and fresh key lime. Sweet oak spices on the palate. Medium plus acidity. Medium body.

Oyster shell, the briniest/saltiest ever, green apple, fino Sherry, cured meat. Elevated acidity and body. Very distinctive vintage.

Unusual at first taste, it really needed some air to line itself back up. Picked up notes of ox and redux simultaneously; nuts, sherry, flinty-ness. Fruit and acid were almost backwards at first. With it air it came into balanced and showed VC. Nice breadth but lacking the tension I expected for the vintage.

2014. Petrol and apple pie nose. Broad and easy drinking.

Crisp, refreshing, 2008

On the nose burnt toast, buttered popcorn, rubber, cashews and asphalt. Popcorn comes through on the palate with black pepper. Meyer lemon on the mid. Spicy finish. Fab.

Lovely Chardonnay. Healthy oak, but not mouth drying and all the awesome, subtle inorganic complexity you love and expect from Bourgogne. Limestone, lemon, white flowers, apples. This wine has inspired me to drink more French chard- let me know if you have suggestions!

#1 Grassy perfume nose. Lemon and peach. Good structure on palate and acids. Good long finish. Gordons tasting 4-26.
