Château de Fieuzal
Grand Cru Classé de Graves Pessac-Léognan Red Bordeaux Blend
2020 vintage. A blend of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. A little timid in the beginning, but opened up fine after 15 minutes in the glass. Purity of fruit ( both black and red), 2020 freshness, Pessac-Léognan spiciness and high quality tannins.Long finish with a nice licorice touch. Great value too, somehow Fieuzal remains somewhat under the radar. Stephen Carrier makes the wine, Thomas Duclos consults.

Nov 18th, 2024Popped and poured, the 2020 pours a deep ruby with near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with dark fruits with brambles and cassis, tobacco, just a touch of green bell pepper, earth, and baking spice. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A balanced and charming example from Pessac-Leognan that’s giving pleasures in its youth. An estate on the rise. Drink now through 2035+.

Feb 27th, 20242019 vintage. A blend of 65% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot according to the official website (whereas most journalists state 60% Cabernet Sauvignon). A mix of red and black fruit, typical Pessac-Léognan spiciness, with the Petit Verdot delivering violet notes. It has a very fresh mouthfeel with juicy fruit and refined tannins, combined with an attractive salinity and a long spicy finish. Very good indeed.

Apr 14th, 2018Dark ruby in color with a reddish rim.
Earthy nose of blueberries, light cherries, black tea, wood, earth, green vegetables, graphite, spices, bitter herbs, bell pepper, peppercorn, forest floor and tobacco leaf.
Medium bodied with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with currants, plums, blueberries, earth, forest floor, green vegetables, graphite, spice box, mushrooms, black tea, bitter herbs and black pepper.
Nice finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries.
This 10 year old Cabernet based Bordeaux from Pessac Léognan, is earthy with nice balance and a soft mouthfeel. A bit spicy with nice complexity.
Still young and needs 3 to 5 years in the bottle to mature, but already enjoyable. Needs an hour to open up properly.
A good wine to pair with food like game meat dishes. I paired it with a cheese plate and crackers.
Robert Parker 92 points, Wine Enthusiasts 92 points, Wine Spectator 90 points, James Suckling 90 points.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
87 Points.
$45.

Dec 2nd, 2014Some acid, nicely earthy, good fruit with a little oak. Medium bodied and balanced. Solid but not amazing. Would revisit given the price point. This was ready to drink.
