Château Bouscassé
Madiran Tannat Blend

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour with some friends while we played pool. The 2018 pours a dark garnet with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of dark fruit: black plum, cassis, tobacco, cocoa, ferrous minerals, gentle, dried cool spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium. Masculine and pretty impressive value. I would imagine this would be a solid paring with cassoulet. Drink now and through 2028.

Just like the ‘17 bottling, this is a robust, structured red with deep black fruit, spice, and earthy undertones. Started off with light barnyard, the Tannat delivers dense plum and licorice, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon’s cassis and Cabernet Franc’s herbal lift. Firm tannins and vibrant acidity promise another 8-10 years aging potential.
Such a great value!

Had the 2018 in January of 2025. Very dry with hints if black cherry. Some hints of spice and leather. Enjoyed this one and would drink again. Didn’t read the back until I was done. Tannat definitely shone through on this one.

20% #cabernetsauvignon 60% #tannat 20% #cabernetfranc . Touch of barnyard funk nose immediately followed by a deep well of cassis, bramble fruit. Higher tension on the palate, robust grippy tannins, as expected. Feels like it needs another 5 years bottle time to fully integrate. #madiran

First time trying a tannat - liked the finish. Spice and cocoa flavors but undefined fruit.

Juicy red and purple fruits. Good tannins with acidity. Long finish. Cocoa. Dusty candied herbs. Inky black pepper.

Needs about an hour to really open and develop. Deep purple with the slightest tawney tint in this 2018. Nose is subtle red berries and herbal, sage and peppery. Very grippy tannins, chalky mouthfeel that masks some of the fruit up front. Fades into a nice long finish where fruit persists and lingers with some flint and spice. A good wine, not a great wine.
