Generosity of Riedel family! Sun-dried red acidic berries, earth, pepper rose, tabaco, eucalyptus, mint. Very thin and aristocratic. A lot of small drying tannins, balanced acidity, simple finish. Respect for the age, but actually nothing more excited.

Steak & claret night! This big cabby southern Pauillac had tons of great currant fruit and plenty of richness. It reminded me a lot of the 1990 Baron- its neighbor closer to the Gironde. Straight from Bordeaux, bought with a strong dollar, this was affordable luxury with a prime "Chataberry"!

2000: medium Garnet. Showing very smoky, earthy and Brett notes, leather and meat. Lovely developed black fruit notes, good mineral notes. Medium + bodied, well integrated tannin (still slightly grainy) and quite good acid. Has 4-5 years on it. Very good.

Cedar and gravel dominate on the nose, rose petal and some sweet smokiness, light bacon fat & underbrush, herbal certainly entering it's developed stage as the fruit takes a back seat (light cranberry & redcurrant). In the mouth this has amazing freshness, great acidity and umami notes on the red berry finish, wonderfully drinkable!

1959 vintage. Medium garnet. Some VA on the nose. Floral, hints of oak notes. Not a hell of a lot of fruit. Very astringent. Turning to vinegar? Tannin is still very much present and gives the wine a resolute structure. Finish is pretty darn good.
