Chalone Vineyard
Reserve Estate Bottled Chalone Pinot Noir
I picked this bottle up directly at Chalone last week. Was very impressed with their Pinots and this reserve in particular. Revisiting this bottle a week later: still awesome, complex layers of minerals and red fruit., very vibrant. One of the best CA pinots I have had. 93 Pts from a cab guy says a lot. 😎

Sep 24th, 2020The best Californian wine I have had all year, and one of the best period. Rich, beety and at a perfect balance point for acidity and tannin. Magical with wild venison sausage! Cinnamon and I both guessed grand cru Birgundy nearly 20 years younger! Thanks for the great bottle dad!

Dec 17th, 2013Stunning!! I paid hard for this. And shared hard. And it was totally worth it. But honestly, I'd have liked to be in Telluride, in front of a fire, or on the coast by a bonfire, sipping this over a few hours. Measuring the evolution in the presence of oxygen. Paired with barbecued oysters from the Coast Cafe in Bolinas -which wouldn't have necessarily paired well, but God DAMN if I'm drinking this shit next to a fire, I want those oysters. And, I want a pony while I'm wishing for stuff.

Feb 7th, 2013We had the 2017 Vintage on 11/12-13/24. Tastes of red cherry, strawberry, raspberry and cranberry. Smooth mouthfeel. A little cinnamon on the finish. A real good, fruit forward California PN. We bought this bottle at the winery in 2022.

Nov 14th, 20241982. Beety, bloody, powerful (but not heavy). Wonderful pinot noir. Chalone pinots from this period are California classics.

Aug 6th, 2017Late tonight with Chinese leftovers. Crumbled protruding cork but everything in place. Just enough acid, fruit, earth, different with every sip. Nice piece of history. I'm not rich enough to drink grand cru burgundy but hope it is as good as this.
