Le Petit Clos Apalta Red Blend
Wow, this second wine from the famous #apalta producer is stunning. Nose is supremely elegant black/purple fruit, sous bois and dried herbs. The rich beam of dark fruit is offset by the perfect level of acidity on the palate with velvety tannins on the finish.

Mar 25th, 2023Smells like nibbling cherries in the middle of the woods, earthy, woodsy, dark. Tastes like eating a dark berry cobbler in a wood paneled smoking lounge. Paired so well with white bean dip…the garlic, salt and richness made the fruit get bright and stand out. I’m a huge fan…solid by itself or with a cheese board also. Worth its $40.

Jan 29th, 2023Dark ruby… Complex, structured with herbal notes. Quite abit of tannins but still berry pleasant to drink! 😂

Decanted 3 hrs prior to tasting.
Aromas - medium intensity green pepper and quince, red plum, dark cherry, currant, slight damp earth. Savory and stony mineral notes emerge over time.
Palate - medium bodied, medium+ acid and ripe medium tannins. Ripe fruit and mineral across an expansive yet weightless mid palate and a medium + length mineral driven finish.
The structure and complexity are here to allow for aging and I feel this will be better in 4-6 years.
The group favorite in tonight's wine tasting, paired with Ribeyes. All 3 wines were very enjoyable.

Wine opened up after half an hour and what a wonderful blend of cherry, wood and spice.

Mar 28th, 2021Beautiful second wine of Clos Apalta. The nose is expressive yet delicate, with cassis, blueberry, vanilla, tobacco, incense, touch of herbal spices, and hint of dry lavender. The full body is finely tuned like a long distance runner without any bulkiness. Soft and expansive palate, with polished tannins.
For 2015 it contains an unusually high 47% Carmenere. 6 months in 225 lt new French oak barrel, and another 17 months in French oak barrels, 22% new.
Nothing petit about this wine!
