If a northern Rhone met its soul partner in Sardinia, this may be their offspring. Firmly medium bodied, very dark color w almost black blue fruits. Canonau aged in concrete. Gamey but enough cassis & fruit on them bones to feel accessible. Paired w Hawaiian style grilled chicken BBQ. Very, very good & appeals to my old school palate.

The 2016 Cannonau di Sardegna Caladu opens up with masses of crushed blackberries, florals, spicy tangerine and smoke. It’s soft and enveloping, contrasted by depths of wild berries, savory herbs and salty mineral notes. This tapers off dry with a twang of tart black fruits over a subtle coating of fine tannin.
