Apr 14th, 2019This largely Cabernet based Red Mountain wine starts off with aromas of toasty oak, cigar box and creme de cassis. There is a wonderful purity of fruit here, with boysenberry cobbler, milk chocolate and cassis flavors showing full force. With good weight and structure, this is built for at least ten years in the cellar. If enjoying young, be sure to give this an hour decant. This is an outstanding effort by the talented Brian Rudin. Drink 2019-2030- 92

Mar 28th, 2019Just a big wow. Duckhorn bringing the heat these days! Wonderful expression of cab.
FYI, I loathe ghetto-pours, unless it’s a by the glass serving. Loved the pour here 🙂

Aug 23rd, 2018Slaughtering ducks tonight. Canvasback is Duckhorn’s Washington venture, which focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon. From the Southwest facing slopes of Red Mountain, the mint, pine, and dark chocolate set this apart as possibly Washington versus Napa. But the cassis and current combined with the baking bread savoriness yields a luscious Napa-style Cabernet.

Oct 23rd, 2017Red/black fruit, earth tones seeping thru. Fruit still there but dried. Tannins medium plus, smoky, acid present, def oak but not a ton of new oak. Nice wine, easy to drink, but not what i thought from Red mountain Cab Sav...

Not exceptionally complex but not one-note either. Blackberry coulis and red currant jam without being cloying. Could get some comely leather notes with age but I’m good with it now.

1 person found it helpfulSep 8th, 2018California Duck migration North. Duckhorn's Washington State adventure looks promising. Full, meaty, and smooth. And taste True to Washington. For their 2nd bottling a great effort and one I expect would get deeper and open with a few years in the bottle because it feels to be holding back from its full potential. Tasted over two nights.
