Cantina Bartolo Mascarello
Langhe Freisa
Sappy blueberries, black cherries, and limestone, almost effervescent, with plenty of balancing acidity, but also some initial funkiness (light Brett) which dissipates slightly. I can see why Freisa is often a blending grape, but in the hands of a great producer, it’s a solid standalone effort.

Jul 16th, 2021In the glass, a touch hazy. On the nose, remarkable bright red fruits and tar. The bouquet is deeply layered but not really easy to pull everything out in the context of the meal. On the palate, crunchy red fruits and a touch frizzante that dissipates. After some air, roses join the massive aromatic theater of this wine. Utterly fresh and with quite substantial structure! A lovely Freisa and likely the best I’ve ever encountered. Bravissimo!
