Bouchard Père et Fils
Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay
#AgedWineTuesday
Dark golden in color with a brownish hue.
Light nose and very dry on the palate with nice complexity.
Showing lemons, apples, spices, light over ripen citrus fruits, earth, light wood, herbs, light vegetables and white pepper.
Short finish with limes and bitter herbs.
This 28 year old is a little past its prime, but still drinkable and interesting.
I had higher expectations, but at this age, it really depends on the individual bottle. That said, I still enjoyed it.
Needed 30 minutes to open up properly.
Good by itself as a sipping wine.
100% Chardonnay grapes were aged in French oak barrels for 12 months.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
90 points.
$250.

Night two at Bern’s. From a great looking bottle with a good fill and awesome color. Medium gold color in the glass. Vibrant and youthful looking for its age. Quiet nose at first, and slow to open as it gains air. Then all of a sudden it jumps up to offer notes of apricot, white acacia flowers, stones and some vanilla. Decent structure. Light acidity. Overall it’s good, not great and did not have the emotion and exotic notes that the 83 Rapet CC had the night before.

Mar 30th, 2023lillies and other white flowers dominate the nose ~ followed by hints of burnt rubber, roasted marshmallow, vanilla and shea butter
lime, orange marmalade, yellow plum ~ well integrated oak leans to a nuttiness like almond butter ~ incredible focused length

One of the freshest older Bouchard whites I’ve ever had. Would never guessed it was 15 years old. White truffle night kinda wine.

Dec 7th, 2021Medium gold color with a youthful, CA-like nose at first. This needed 3+ hours of air to develop some complexity, show its acidity and structure, and become the wine it should be. Notes of apricot and citrus, some green apple, some wood, some ginger and some white clay. My experiences with the 05s have been rather interesting… many are very CA-like in their youth, but starting to develop complexity and show their terrior. Give them air to develop. A half bottle of this was pumped and left 3 days in the fridge, and was still in reasonably good shape when I went back to it.

Nov 26th, 2021Light gold, heavy in the glass. Great nose right out of the gate. Notes of citrus, white clay, pear, a little iodine and some spice. Rich and powerful in the mouth. Really good wine. Ripe fruit matched with a strong backbone of acidity. I think this is drinking well right now. Bottles like this should have a long future and could improve some more.
