No formal notes, dining with friends in a very good Chinese Restaurant on the Gold Coast. It might be a Premier Cru but Beaune is not Vosne Romanee. Lots of ripe cherry on the nose and palate. Quite sweet on the palate. Possibly drunk a little young and lacking in complexity but I don’t believe this will reach any great heights.

The 1er Cru Beaune ‘du Château’ from Bouchard Père & Fils is unapproachable at the moment, showing little more than the effects of what must be quite enthusiastic oak ageing. When the fruit does finally emerge, it’s dark, brooding and velvety, with sufficient cut to the palate’s jib to make this a wine of interest - but not for a good few years, yet. I’d leave this for at least another five and would be intrigued to try again.

Nose has wet leather, cherry jam, dried cherry, crushed raspberries, dry garden soil and freshly ground white pepper.

Palate has mashed black cherry, dried tart cherry, dry soil with medium tannins and long finish. Decanted +4h, I'd appreciate trying this bottle again in 2023+, it certainly has structure to get there and beyond, alas our final bottle.

Paired to a locally raised, baked pork tenderloin, coated in great olive oil and then my homemade bread crumb mix. Alongside roasted root vegetables, because it's now that time of year again...cold-ish outside.

2011 Vintage slight red to brick cherry, floral seems close to its peak (might be storage ) but still nice thanks Mark & Elizabeth

Broad and firm, while being approachable. Violets, cherry, tomato leaf, minerality, wild herbs, iron and great acid.

Disappointed - trusted Bouchard - but this is definitely lacking the focus and expression of a 1er Cru. Stewed red fruits and damp earth in the background. Sigh ....

Somewhat beefy Pinot. Dark fruits, earthy spice, underbrush, fennel and nice acid. 2015, young I know, could use quite a bit of time to mellow.

A bit reduced, tight and off-balance. Barrel nose and annoyed palate. After it got some air it started behaving and treated me to some classic red Beaune — luscious, tender, velvety yet lean and angular at times. Was perfect with guinea hen topped with foie gras, smoked bacon, some soy and acacia honey glaze. #aitfrance #lapremiere

I love Burgundy and this is a delicious Beaune. Enjoyed it with smoked haddock gratin where it just came alive and was a beautiful pairing going down rather well with our friends.
