The label was in absolute tatters but all other signs appeared to be good with this bottle. Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of an hour. The 1990 Grand Année Rosé pours a deep coral color with very little mousse that dissipates in the glass quickly. On the nose, this was funky initially so we tossed it in the decanter which freshened it up. After 30min, it was positively singing! Desiccated strawberry, crème brûlée, pink flowers, and fino sherry. On the palate, the wine is dry with high acid. This showed remarkable power which was so impressive. I can’t say I’ve ever had a Rosé with quite this amount of age but boy did it ever work. If anyone has any of these laying around; I might suggest giving it a splash in the decanter for 30min first. Drink now.

Delicate red fruits (cranberry , currant , tart cherry) complemented by blood orange, soil tones, and liquid minerals. The palate is fresh and long with lots of dry extract . This rose is so elegant and refined . One of the best young Bolle rose I have tasted.

Delicious. The red fruit has settled. Now it’s roses, soft wild strawberry, chalk. Lovely balance. Subtle fruit and minerality blended well. In a really good place to drink now.

Soft pink. Has settled with a soft wild strawberry, salinity, limestone. Gently yeasty on the nose with nice weight. Savory for a rose. Very good.

Light salmon color. Nice energy in the glass. Yeasty nose. Also notes of cranberries, white chalk, kiwi fruit and some wet stones. Nice mouth feel and acidity that pairs with fruit that hides in the background. Lots of power in this. Still a baby.

The 2012 La Grande Année Rosé is airy, gracious and so wonderfully inviting. Crushed flowers, mint, white pepper and red berry fruit are all gracefully woven together. Today, the 2012 is naturally quite young and still shows the tension of a Champagne that was disgorged just a few months ago. Readers who prefer Champagnes with softer edges and a bit more flavor complexity will want to cellar the 2012. I have to admit, I very much like the wine today, in its youthful state, where its energy and focus are front and center. The 2012 is a blend of 67% Pinot Noir and 33% Chardonnay taken from 21 villages built around a core of Aÿ and Verzenay Pinot Noir and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Oiry Chardonnay, crus that are quite complementary. Disgorged January 2020. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. (Originally published in August 2020) (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, November 2020)

Salmon color. Looks inviting in the glass. Fruit forward nose. Notes of cranberry, cherry and some citrus. Good mouth feel. A nice summer quaff.
