Outstanding freshness in this vintage. Nice bit of meaty earth too with plenty of red fruit and berries plus a soft dose of new wood. Great right out the bottle, after 24 hours, and even after 48. Impressive.

Firstly, the conditions weren’t great for this wine. It was drunk without decanting at cellar temperature, so in many respects was unable to show at its best. I do believe this is a little closed down for now; there seems to be much more lurking beneath the surface that should be revealed with another 5 years or so. That being said, it missed the mark somewhat for me on this occasion and certainly didn’t match the 2014 I had a few weeks ago. I’ll sit on the remaining bottles I have.

Deep ruby; medium plus intensity aromas of plum, blackberry, pomegranate, currant, earth, mushroom, vanilla, spices, cedar; dry, medium plus acid, high chalky tannins, high alcohol, medium plus body, medium plus intensity flavors consistent with aromas; long finish, very concentrated and complex, well balanced, very good

Great surprise! Brilliant QPR at £8/half. Youthful, vivacious, promising for the future. An excellent Rioja.

Founded in 1932 by Isaac Muga Martínez. On his death in ‘69, children Manuel, Isabel & Isaac Muga Caño took over. Deep Ruby, aromas of sweet red and black fruits with pepper spice, unmistakable Muga. 4 grape blend from the Haro district (Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano), palate shows cherry and currant flavors with espresso and smoky oak tones. Soft tannins with an edge, lively acidity on a medium+ finish ending with an earthy mineral character. Nice!

Dark wood and savory, tangy fruit. In great condition and very deep and pure. Lovely.

Really grew to like this. Began with a cavalcade of coffee, cedar and vanilla before settling to show ripe blackberry, salted plums, cherry and cola lollies. Impressively structured with medium plus tannin profile that slowly builds with balanced acidity.

Might be the least impressive bottle of Muga I've ever had. Lacking in every category. Dang it to heck!
