Sipping Fine Wine

Began 1916, when Juan Gil Giménez, great-grandfather of the present generation, built a winery in heart of Jumilla. Blue label spent 18 months in new French and American oak barrels. Monastrell, Cab Sauv & Syrah blend (60/30/10), low yield, aromas of red berry and toasty oak. Palate shows flavors of dark berry fruits, espresso, cacao and hints of sweet spice. Round dusty tannins, well integrated with oak, medium+ finish ending with fruit and rich earthy oaky character.

Very good. Of course this is my favorite winery so far for sure. But I’m a little disappointed it’s not relatively better along with the steeper price. I enjoyed it a great deal though. But I can’t say it’s better than the ~$15 bottles

BIG Red Blend! (45% Monastrell, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah). Specially produced for the U.S. Market. Wonderful balance, and the varietals beautifully compliment each other. Intense purple color. Juicy and ripe red and black fruit aromas and flavors. Additional hints of chocolate and spices with a slight herbal note on the long and silky finish. Awesome QPR. Great suggestion, Petey!

2018 tomado en 2021. Creo que es un vino tan potente que todavĂa se puede redondear mĂĄs años en botella. 22€. Monastrell, cabernet sauvignon y shiraz.

This is a big wine: unlike the delicate “angel’s breath” monastrel for which Gil is best known, this cab packs a whalloping 15% alcohol by volume. It’s all in balance: deep, strong tannins give it a strong backbone, and the fruit and acidity make it refreshing with a hearty, meaty meal.
