Jumilla, Murcia

Bodegas Juan Gil

(Silver Label) Jumilla Monastrell 2015

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose of blackberries, plums, cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn, earth and black tea.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and fruity on the palate with plums, cherries, strawberries, currants, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, wood, earth, chocolates, coffee, light vegetables, pencil lead and peppercorn.

Medium plus on the finish with round tannins and spices.

This is a great Monastrell from Jumilla, Spain. Always enjoyable by itself or with food. Fruity and spicy with a touch of earth notes.

Well balanced with mild complexity and a great mouthfeel.

Very fruity right out of the bottle, and gets earthier as it opens up.

I paired it with Spanish tapas. Has high alcohol so watch out... 😃

Aged in French oak barrels.

15.5% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

Altos de la Hoya Ungrafted Old Vines Jumilla 2016

Delectable Wine

With its suave blend of rich dark fruit and energetic floral and spice qualities, this juicy Spanish red will pair well with a range of foods, especially grilled meats. It also drinks wonderfully by itself. Supple tannins and subtle grip keep the exuberant fruit in check. $15.00 (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, October 2018) — 12 days ago

Jumilla Monastrell 2016

Good $10 Monastrell.
Lean and acid driven, black pepper on the nose and pallet for spice, fruit is fresh juicy & tannic cranberry . Drinkable on its own, but better paired with hearty grub (what isn’t?)

Clio Jumilla Monastrell-Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

Finally! I could not resist the temptation to open the Clio. And it did not disappoint!
It was so dense and powerful that it could actually stood up to the Royce dark chocolate at the end of dinner. But as impressive as the palate was, the nose was better with its class and elegance. A bit too ripe in my opinion, but nevertheless very enjoyable.
