18 meses Jumilla Monastrell Blend 2015

Tried 6mos ago. Began 1916, Juan Gil Giménez, great-grandfather of present generation, built winery in heart of Jumilla. Blue label spent 18 months in new oak (wine formally known as 18 mos representing time in bottle, now “Blue Label.” Monastrell, Cab Sauv & Syrah blend (60/30/10), low yield, aromas of red berry and toasty oak. Palate shows flavors of dark berry fruits, espresso, cacao and hints of sweet spice. Big dusty tannins, well integrated with oak, lingering, well balanced. Aged well, still going! — 12 days ago

Jumilla Monastrell

100 % Monastrell. Pretty color. Dark purple to maroon. Smells of violets and tart berries. Hint of smoke. Flavor is deep, dense and intense. Plenty of blue, black and dark red berries. Bit of anise, licorice. Some cherry coke. It’s dry. It’s tasty. It’s unique. Un vino muy bien hecho! — 4 days ago

Not bad at all.
I usually go for lower alcohol percentage but i wasn't too bothered about it after tasting!

Monastrell Syrah 2017

This is a really nice drinking wine that drinks well beyond its price point. At the cork pop it was slightly astringent on the nose. But after an hour the nose settled down nicely. There were hints of blackberry and some spices. This was followed up with more dark fruits, pepper and licorice and sort of like gravel dust. I thought it had a medium finish. This is a nice value find but you don’t have to tell anyone it was not expensive. — a month ago

El Petit Bonhomme Monastrell Blend 2017

What an interesting blend! Full bodied, good balance. Big fruit, plums, dark cherry, baking spice, vanilla. Price point is good.... probably because it doesn’t follow DOC. Pleasant surprise! — 2 days ago

Promising velvety spices on the nose. But the palate is still a bit rough and edgy. Needs cellar time or air but everything is there to come around. 92+ from magnum — 5 hours ago
