Beringer Vineyards
Private Reserve Napa Valley Chardonnay
In a word, a “BIG” Chardonnay. Pale with stone and tropical fruit aromas and floral spice. On the palate flavors of apple, apricot, pear & lemon with oak and sweet vanilla spice. Nice mouthfeel, well balanced with lively acidity, long finish ending with toasty oak and mineral character.

Dec 26th, 2019Had another ‘14 in my cellar. A Napa producer since 1876, established by Jacob Beringer & continues in its 3rd century. In a word, a “BIG” Chardonnay. Pale with stone and tropical fruit aromas and complex spice. Sitting on 80% new French oak, the palate shows ripe apple, apricot, pear & lemon flavors with sweet vanilla spice. Nice buttery mouthfeel, creamy, balanced with lively acidity and toasty oak adding an ending of minerality. Aging well!

Aug 31st, 2018@David L will slap me for drinking this, but I’ve always loved the presentation of this chard. It’s big and burly, and somewhat overoaked, but it packs a punch in terms of its weight and viscosity. Loads of almonds and grapefruit on the palate, with a hint of gooseberries. For the vintage, this is still in excellent shape, and has many years ahead of it.

Apr 20th, 2018Established in 1876 by Jacob Beringer & continues in its 3rd century of crafting wines from Napa. This is a "Big" Chardonnay. Developed aromas of ripe stone fruit with tropical notes and hints of baking spices. On the palate ripe apple, pear and pineapple, very creamy with a buttery texture, grilled almond and vanilla flavors well integrated. A full body Chardonnay, on a lingering finish, that almost doesn't end, ending with a big nutty, buttery finish. Just tasted '13, some age added finesse to this wine.

Jul 17th, 2017Typical Napa Chard, but done very well. It is very big, but still in balance. A lot of pare, mango, pineapple, very tropical with vanilla and butterscotch all the way. A li of oak also.

2 people found it helpfulApr 22nd, 2014The first Wine Spectator I ever bought had the Beringer Private Reserve Chard on it’s cover as wine of the year. 25 years later the price hasn’t actually changed much making this a good value ($30ish on sale). ‘17 starts out neon gold. Tight and malo. Needed a few hours to open up, and performed better cool and not chilled.
