'Gargantua Pantagruel' Syrah
The labels give no indication where the grapes are sourced (it’s an “American Syrah”), but I’m getting campfire embers and olive brine in the nose, musky lillies, and deep red berries under it all, so I’m guessing there is a fair amount of Walla Walla fruit in this. The palate is smooth, deep, and richly fruity, but completely avoids any jamminess. There’s lots of very fine-grained tannin, and the acids are nice. Love the low (13.2%) alcohol. Surprisingly good!

Jun 29th, 2023Smells of honey dipped violets.
Classic barnyard funkiness, that gives way to deep candied cherry cordial, tobacco leaf, some pencil lead, some high acid and strapping tannin. Will lay the other one down for a couple more years to smooth out.

As one person said: “liked but didn’t love”. Pleasant with Pat’s spaghetti and a change from Pinot Noir ($20)

Jun 5th, 2021Pop, 1hr slow ox, no decant. On the nose: lovely, gamey red fruit, blackberry, blueberry...comes off a touch ripe, but the game notes bring it.back.down to earth...only complaint is a soft chlorine.note on the back end of the nose. On the palate: excellent acidity. and lighter-bodied than I expected, but a pleasant surprise, with loads of energy, a touch of stoniness and some cracked pepper spice. Some chalky tannin on the finish. A very good syrah for my palate, and for the price, downright spectacular.
