The 2021 Bedrock Heritage Wine is a great expression of this site. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, leather and tobacco are front and center. This dark, virile Zinfandel-based field blend packs a serious punch. There's plenty of detail and nuance behind all of that intensity. The 2021 is a big wine, but also less monolithic than some previous editions. There's a bit more whole cluster in the 2021 than in the past, so perhaps that explains the wine's nuance. The 2021 is one of the best wines I have ever tasted from the Bedrock vineyard, and I say that as someone who is not yet fully convinced of the potential here. Yup! Pomegranate, cranberry, dark cherry, & plum. Great interplay between tart and ripe fruits. Bit of vegetal bell pepper and purple flowers. Really nice.

When I first opened this, it was very meh. It’s showing a lot better after three days. Jammy with a concentrated nose of blackberry jam, mulberries, ripe black cherries, some herbs. Well made, but riper, more extracted and higher alcohol than I can really get into. I do think I opened it too early though.

Ripe red and black fruits sweet ripe tannins. It’s a very delicious wine. It seems a little simple though, not much complexity with no tertiary aromas or flavors and the alcohol feeling for me is on the high side. Very good. #redblend #redfruitblackfruit #californiazinfandel #sonomawine

Very young. Needs time. Still delicious.

Hm. Not what I was hoping for. A bit softer than I expected. Seems low acid, medium body. Cherries and pomegranate. Maybe it’s been open too long?

Has gone to sleep a little since last year. I’ll give my other bottle a couple years hibernation.

Blam-o!- The Bedrock Sonoma Heritage is their blend of 19 to 22 different grapes (mostly Zin & Carignane) all from the Heritage vineyard, planted between 1888 and 1895. For real. This is the vineyard that originally inspired them to start the Bedrock wine project. Wild.
