Good dark red. Subdued, rather loamy aromas of red plum, currant, mocha and tobacco leaf. Fine-grained, supple and vinous, but its moderate fruit sweetness is reduced by menthol and herb character. The wine's substantial broad, dusty tannins turn a bit dry, even peppery, on the back end. But this Cabernet still retains good savory energy, and a subtle sweetness to its red fruit flavors. Dark ruby and opaque with soft red brick rims. Red cherry fruit and brush, mocha, spice and some soil. Good fruit, chewy in the mouth. Lots of structure, dry finish.

1996 vintage. Beautiful nose with black cherries, thyme, dark chocolate and lead pencil. Still a lot of fruit after 20 years, perfectly balanced by the acidity and tannins. Impressive retronasal fruit, dark chocolate and violets. Absolutely delicious.

So happy some dude was so deterred by a broken cork that he returned this to bay grape, so we could taste this 96 magnificence.

A treat in honor of the team that just visited Barnett last week. Brings back memories of being up on Spring Mountain myself.. Gorgeous, intoxicating nose of lilacs, raisins, cocoa, cranberry, and black plum. The palate is expansive but smooth as silk. More chocolate and raisins on the palate, bright features that speak to the elevation with a nice acidity too. Powerful but elegant at the same time - what I love most about mountain fruit. A delicious wine that will only improve over time but I don't even care that I opened it this young, it's delicious right now.

'97 Peacock Family Vineyard by Barnett. Found this beauty in my local grocery! Ripe dansom plum, chocolate covered cherries, dried lavander, coffee, and baking spice. Sumptuous full body and ultra refined tannin folded seamlessly into the complex core of fruit. Starting to show the dignity of its age but stiil has a lot of life left. This is drinking perfectly right now.
