Azienda Agricola Fontodi
Case Via Colli Toscana Centrale Syrah
Nose has ripe plum, fig paste, blackberry jam, violets, old leather jacket and moist chocolate cake.
Palate has dried blackberry, ripe mulberry, dehydrated black cherry, ripe blackcurrant, damp cedar notes with medium tannins and a very long finish.
Paired wonderfully with pork cassoulet tonight. Double decanted, 4H rest at the time of notes.
I'd bet, if we opened this wine in 2032 it would still taste pretty much like it does tonight in 2022; Stunning and young, probably 20 years in front before the fruits start dropping.
Probable that '98 might have been inaugural vintage.

Stunning. Gives cote rotie a run for its money. Maybe a tiny bit oaky with air.

May 18th, 2021Earthy, tertiary notes coming through, faded ripe fruit. At its peak. Great for now.

Jun 14th, 2020Had this over a year ago, still tasting great. Located in the heart of Chianti Classico in the valley which lies south of the town of Panzano, called the "Conca d’Oro" (the golden shell) because of its amphitheatre shape. Aged for 12 months in oak, big ripe berry aromas & spicy notes. On the palate dark berry flavors, some sweet currants, cacao and oak. Well balanced with soft smooth tannins, lingering ending with smoky tones. Nice! Grab a bottle if you find one!

Mar 5th, 2018This is what I imagine walking into a kitchen in the Tuscan countryside in late fall is like. Big pot of cinghiale stew on a wood burning stove, herbs hung from the rafters to dry and a big hug from Nona.
