Au Bon Climat
Santa Barbara Historic Vineyards Collection Los Alamos Vineyards Chardonnay
After Jim Clendenen graduated with a pre-law degree in ’76, he was assistant winemaker at Zaca Mesa Winery for the 1978 harvest, and in 1981 he pulled a “triathlon” and handled 3 harvests in one year as Jim worked crush and directed the harvest at wineries in Australia and France. Small crop, early ripening with concentrated fruit, aromas of tropical fruits and toasty notes. On the palate fresh pineapple and pear with oak tones, a bit creamy, almost buttery, a bit overdone, but still a good value. Medium finish with a round mouthfeel and bits of mineral on the ending. Tasting Sample.

Feb 13th, 2019Lemon custard and dusty citrus with just slight touches of toast. Light crisp touches of oak. Fantastic it’s so close to burgundy it’s insane.

1 person found it helpfulJul 8th, 2020This bottling is created expressly for Daniel Boulud restaurants. Clean, pretty pale gold, with a forward nose redolent of apple and yellow fruit augmented by well balanced oak. All continues on the palate with a lovely silly texture. Fruity without being cloying. Nice long finish. A bit light on acidity for food pairing

Jul 11th, 2015Creamy & oaky, great with chicken. Rich but balanced in true Au Bon Climat style.

Jan 22nd, 2013Talk about classy (or classic) Chardonnay, don’t matter really, this is both! This is in its own league when it comes to Chard. It’s crisp yet round, bright yet balanced, and acidic yet unctuous. Not old world but not typical Cali Chard. Must try this ABC. Cheers.
