Au Bon Climat
Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir
2014 drunk in 2024. I kept a bottle of this $14(!!) wine—2015 price—for 8 years on a hunch that it would hold up, and it did. I don’t know what it costs now, but back then it was head and shoulders the best American supermarket wine.

Nov 6th, 2024Murky florals. Condensed fruits. Intense herb. Savory pepper. Underlying pyrazine. Primary, unstable structure. Well worth the $19 admission.

May 10th, 2016Thoroughly enjoyable entry level PN. Sappy fruit with an herbal earthy component in the nose. Good concentration, nice balance. Already showing nice aromatics, soft texture, and passable acid balance. Not to age but to drink over the next year. Ordered it with dinner at The Village Idiot in Lexington, KY. Took the rest of the bottle back to the hotel room. These are day 2 notes.

Apr 17th, 2016Lovely fragrant perfume. Light/medium weight palate with some sap and forest floor. A little simple but drinks to its price point.

Apr 6th, 20162014, Enjoyed it even more than the last vintage. The nose leaves little to be desired, with dried cranberry, a yellow bell pepper-like vegetal note, mushroom, and ripe cherry. The palate features more cranberry, underripe strawberry, herbs de Provence, and a silky finish. Flowing. No rough edges, drinks really well young. Always a good bottle from Mr. Clendenon.
