Trout Gulch Vineyard Chardonnay
Loads of verve. Driven by lemon zest, salinity, mint and dried rocks. Just beautiful tension that elongates the wine to a long, lingering finish. Second-favorite vineyard for Chardonnay in California that encapsulates the very best the state has to offer. Top class. Paired with lemony shrimp scampi

Dec 26th, 2023Oaky and green, not quite ripe. Tastes a bit disjointed.

May 15th, 2023Displays a distinctive personality on the nose and palate. It’s a leanish, mineral-driven expression of Chardonnay. Hints of ginger and lanolin combine with taught acidity. Sweetness is light to moderate. Very little oak to talk about, mostly steely. This will partner perfectly with sushi, but it does need a wingman.

Jul 22nd, 2022you were right @Antonio Galloni this was “f***ing magnificent” ~ arguably my favorite “summer” expression of Chardonnay to date ~ truly ⚡️⚡️⚡️

Jul 14th, 2022The most natural American oyster wine ever. Focussed minerality of a GC Chablis, essence of salt brine, laser intensity and tension. Blown away. Can easily spend 5+ years in the cellar and get even more interesting.

Sep 23rd, 2021Very clear and crisp. Light footed with good structure. Nice and blanched. Not a bruise and the better for it

May 29th, 2021Very pretty aromas. Quince, white flowers, lemon, gooseberries, a hint of lactic richness, also with salt spray nose. Chablisien. But the volume on the palate is more villages than GC. Not getting Cali terroir so much as old world *stylings* ie grapes picked way early. Normally I’m in line with AG but can’t get behind the score here.

May 10th, 2021The 2019 Chardonnay Trout Gulch is fabulous. Palpable energy and tension drive a core of crushed rocks, lemon confit, mint and white flowers. Intensely saline, tense notes really bristle in this magnificent Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay. The 2019 is naturally very young, but it is stellar. Dried flowers, sage, mint and dried herbs linger. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2021)

Whew! Loved this bottle. Loads of green apple, lemon & sea salt. Waves of acidity, with an exceptionally long finish. Paired with potato & leek soup with all the fixins
