Score reflects what I thought was a mildly corked bottle. My mates weren’t convinced. 1 bottle left, to settle the question. The best of Colares is a personal favorite, so am hopeful.

Woah. Incredibly unique. Somewhere between Syrah and nebbiolo, this bottle was spicy, lively, generously-red fruited, with secondary depth for days (herbs, saline, underbrush, wood). Stunning. Was supposed to have gone in March, before everything happened...

Unique wine from pre-phylloxera vines grown in the sand less than a mile from the Atlantic. Nose is grape juice concentrate and beef jerky, teriyaki, some smoke, berries and a clay/mineral earthiness. A remarkable freshness too. Bright red fruit on the palate. Ripe, without compromised acidity. Silky texture and fine tannins. Reminds me of Cote Rotie but with a boost in acid and saltiness. Drinking beautifully now though another 10-15 years in the bottle probably wouldn’t hurt!

Ramisco varietal, borne in a sand terroir of Portugal region beginning to be overrun by hotels. It simply has become a favorite wine quickly; not cheap( about 40$ & up, usually they are 500ml bottles), gains in intensity with air. Fine grained tannins, wild red berries, lithe acidity. Low alcohol & has the rep for long range storage. God, I love this stuff. Very rare wine too, which of course adds to the allure.

I feel very lucky to have had this wine! Spicy black pepper, sour cherry, mushroom and leather aromas and flavors. The tannins are sooo smooth and still some bright acidity. Yummy! Drinking it in Porto, Portugal.

Happy Valentine’s Day to me! A jewel. If it was a blind pour, would’ve guessed Barbaresco. Cherry dark fruit, great balance, well developed tannins. After an hour, still opening up…hopefully we’ll have some leftover. Pistachio crusted duck breast, yes.

Delicious and inexpensive (at least in Lisbon).

This has all the markings of a mountainside red from volcanic soil, but it’s from the Lisbon seaside and has a subtle power that drives through your palette during a virus that has shut us down.

Medium-ruby red color, nicely ripe redfruit aromas and similar flavors, super complex, GREAT acidity, long, lingering finish, this is great Ramisco (red grape of Colares), purchased at winery last year and carried home, WOW wine!!

Amazing wine/ drank 2006 reserve- this wine can age longer I believe. Overall a very unique wine with tons of character- the tamisco grape is unique to the coastal region of Portugal - one of the old heirloom vines- and because I like thin mineral reds this is my dream come true for sipping wine! If you have a chance of getting this wine- Buy it by the case and hold on to it - very unique and should be more recognized for the hen that it is.
