Nov 11th, 2022Holding up extremely well for a 2009. Color was dark, inky from core to rim. The expressive nose was filled with lavender, licorice and black pepper along with ripe black and blue fruit. The palate was clean and bright with more ripe fruit on the front end; the mid palate was expansive with rich but soft tannins, cocoa, black tea, and herbal notes. The finish was surprisingly long and Smokey. I credit balanced acidity for its long life!

Feb 21st, 2020I am always eager to uncork a high end Washington Syrah! 😺🍷 I had been cellaring this bottle, the “last man standing” from my visit to the winery a few years back. This bottle did not disappoint. It is full of the rich plum fruits layered over that body so peculiar to Washington Syrah, this sort of pleasant mushroom tinge. I realize that may not sound palatable, but once tasted, it really lights up that “eureka!” center of the oenophile brain; imagine your first tastee if the Rutherford Dust tannic structure. Amaviis among my favorite Walla Walla wineries, and this Syrah is perfect for sipping with honored guests or old friends 😼

Jul 13th, 2019Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.
On the nose, blueberries, strawberries, currants, vanilla, oak, tobacco, spices, bitter herbs, vegetables, wet leaves, licorice and black pepper.
Medium plus in body and smooth with medium acidity and nice legs.
Dry on the palate with blueberries, plums, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, bitter herbs, spices, dark coffee, pencil lead, earth, vegetables and black pepper.
Medium finish with soft tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a very enjoyable Syrah from Walla Walla Valley in Washington State. Nicely balanced and earthy, with an elegant mouthfeel. Not as spicy as i except it to be.
Feels like a southern Rhône blend, more than a new world wine.
Needs 90 minutes to open up properly.
A blend of 88% Syrah and 12% Grenache. Aged in 100% French Oak barrels (16% new).
14.5% alcohol by volume.
89 points.
$30.

If you squint your eyes (and your palate) just enough, for a fleeting moment you might think this is from Cayuse. Blackberry and plum skin, 72% cacao, black olive, saddle leather, and cigar box, with a lavender and incense backdrop.

Dec 5th, 2017Biiiiig! Tons of ripe fruit and oak. Delicious but you have to have food to stand up to it.

4 people found it helpfulJun 30th, 2014In Washington State for a week, first for a work conference and then to Walla Walla to taste and drink. So the local Seattle Whole Foods has this. Dark fruity nose, very clingy and savory on the palate. Acid is a bit low for my taste. Loads of soft tannin and long finish. This is a wine in search of a grilled Porterhouse.
