Alain Hudelot-Noellat
Les Beaumonts Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Pinot Noir
This is the wine I brought along for dinner at the head of the Chevaliers movement in Australia. Barely mid crimson in colour. Delivers more intensity on nose and palate than the colour would indicate. Very sappy and savoury on the palate with good length and a great match with the lovely Coq au Vin prepared by the hostess. A great example of a mature Premier Cru from Beaux Monts.

Feb 16th, 2020Mid Ruby in colour. Earthy aromas - the perfume of Vosne Romanee. Sappy Red fruits - just medium weight. Expected more complexity from this 1er Cru and good vintage, although good persistence and length. Medium minus Tannins. I don’t normally comment on a wine label, but being a printer, this had the classic Burgundian graphic art and type face - beautiful!

Sep 29th, 2019Medium to rich crimson in colour. Aromas of Roses earth and cherries. On the palate savoury with very good intensity and length. Light to medium weight. A deserving Premier Cru from the great commune of Vosne Romanee. With time in decanter a touch of mushroom on the nose with lovely red fruit/sappiness on palate. Allen Meadows says the reference standard in Les Beaux Monts is Leroy but like all Cuvées from Leroy at eye watering prices.

Jun 20th, 2019Cloves, rose petal, cinnamon are just a couple of the notes wafting up with black raspberries and strawberries. Succulent. Absolutely delish.

Jun 25th, 2016Good persistence and energy. Acidity and tannins in balance. Sweet and spicy notes are well integrated, finishing clean. Nicely expressive right now. Wine 7/10.

Oct 11th, 2015Initially quite thin and heady. Nose opens up and is pretty elegant... Touch of cinnamon, rose petals, gravel, pomegranate. Good punch but a bit ferrous... Keeps opening though.

Apr 25th, 2015Really drinking well right now. One more year and it'll be perfect. Tertiary notes coming out of tobacco and leather and Rosemary with dark fruit.
