Barbaresco #2 not much better than the Socre I just panned. (And this is my third unsuccessful pull tonight, as this and the prior Barbaresco were preceded by a completely undrinkable 08 Ghemme.) Double decanted (through an aerator), the nose shows some Nebbiolo fruit (dried cherry), and some rose petals and minerally earth, but there’s a little scorchy note that detracts. Very tannic and skinny in the mouth. All bones and little flesh. I’ll put this away, try it tomorrow, and pull something dependable for tonight’s dinner.
UPDATE: Even worse on night 2. Showing oxidized notes as well now.

Developing, delicious and more “on point” than other la ca nova offerings which tend to feel tired and non-descript. Dried roses, leather, and game - this is where it’s at!

Lovely nose of dried red fruits and rose petals. Beautiful garnet color. Showing it’s best fruit after two hours open with cherries, soft spice, and baking chocolate. Slightly bitter finish.

Jan 7th, 2018Pnp. Drinking well now but no rush. leather cherry and tar notes...a traditional style barbaresco. Very enjoyable with eggplant parmesan and bucatini with red sauce.

Black tea, cranberry, and a hint of minty toothpaste. Tobacco, tar and roses. Huge tannins, medium body, medium fruit. With John and Anh.
