Happy #WorldWhiskeyDay. Peated nose with some mesquite smokiness to it. Rich palate with some smoked sweatiness, stone fruits and caramel. Long finish.

In a case of truth in labeling, this is the ultimate in peat and salinity, the latter so off the scale as to evoke a sense of pure iodine. A few splashes of water sorted this out, superb.

Beastly scotch - makes the Ardbeg 10 year feel like drinking water in comparison. Very intense campfire smoke, saline, with sweet burnt caramel on this finish. Perfect for those chilly winter nights.

It's as though Ardbeg existed at time's beginning and God only gave us rain as something to pair it with.

A marriage of younger more primal and pear driven whisky blended with much older whisky matured in sherry casks. The unmistakable peat and terroir of ardbeg shows brilliantly, with the older sherries whisky providing even more detail and finesse. Warmer flavors than the Corryvreckan. Exemplary in is depth and density. 54+% abv, and takes very well to a few drops of water.

thank you Dave Blackmore for these beast. the name means 'dark and mysterious', the local loch, or lake where they get their water from for the distillery. ex-sherry casks and some deep balanced Palo Cortado tones with some Fino freshness. 2013 Whisky Bible Whisky of the Year.

We love Islay malts in winter— Seattle reached 17° F today, so we reached for the Oog. Gorgeous bottling if a touch sweet for my palate. Threads the needle of smoky peat/malt styles very well. Best with a few drops of water to open up.

Two bottlings, one older. One richer, funkier.
