Fine acidity for the vintage, some unsurprisingly potent sulfur that blew off with air. The wine waiting underneath was rich, ripe and showy but without sacrificing the hot slate impression of Wehlener Sonnenuhr. Just coming around, with decades ahead.

One HOT 🔥 Auslese
Extreme heat and drought marked the 2003 vintage in the Mosel and protecting against overripeness and maintaining acidity were the two major concerns for winemakers
DAY 1
Served the bottle with the Vinloq System
👃Honey, honeysuckle, pineapple, apple and pear
👅Delicious peach, pear and tropical fruits were accompanied by light petrol and slatey minerality. This is long. It finishes sweet, fruity and floral
Needs just a touch more acidity to deliver the home run but this is a delicious triple ⚾️
The remaining wine was Slow Decanted in my refrigerator
DAY 18
👃More petrol tonight with stone fruits & honeysuckle
👅Honeyed peach and pineapple with a touch of caramel. Dense & juicy with the sweet & persistent smoky fruits going on and on… This is dessert 👍
Should provide many years of drinking pleasure. Well managed vintage for this consistently great wine🥂

Overriding tropical fruit on the nose, ripe mango / passion fruit. So rich and candied, with lots of weight. Really remarkable but a wine for a certain time and place. Very long finish.

I had to go for it since there was some seeping at the cork. Ended up being great. Luscious, honeyed long finish.

This is quite sulfurous at first , though there is apple pie and citrus underneath. Medium sweet, the palate is exemplary , even considering the very hot 2003 vintage . Lots of cooked apple , citrus and mineral, almost pineapple at the end , long finish well balanced , really quite elegant actually, beautifully poised . This has life ahead of it , everything is in there to improve another 5 and last a further 10 years I suspect. An excellent wine.
