This is not my style but quite the blockbuster wine. Chewy, dense, still tight & lord knows we could have waited...red fruited, what gorgeous fruit & integrated tannins, surprisingly. Drank at sunset, outside, on a gorgeous Sunday evening.

Outstanding, great trempanillo with 5 to 10 pct merlot. Smokey, forward fruit, very well integrated oak. Would be a number 1 wine for most not for Vega. Truly great.

Still so young but man this is great. Very soft tannins especially given the age.

Shockingly easy to enjoy now, this is quite a different experience than I was expecting. Though somewhat divergent from its typically firmer structure, it was great because we had it with a meal and could enjoy it immediately. The color has a deep purple-red core, with vibrant ruby edges. The nose was youthful with a medium+ intensity , showing dark red and black fruits, mocha and coffee bean. The flavors came in waves on the palate, layering with elegance and consistency to a long, fruit, oak and subtle spice finish. Not what I expected, but very enjoyable and priced much better here in Spain. @ Asador Extebarri #valbuena #vegasicilia #riberadelduero

New vintage release tasting at Vega Sicilia in Ribera del Duero. The 2015 Unico presented an elegant profile, while the 2020 Valbuena showcased a bolder character. Traditionally, Unico is known for its power and structure, whereas Valbuena tends to be the more refined and elegant wine. Staff assured me it is not a reversal in winemaking techniques but rather a juxtaposition of their respective vintages.

Reliably fun and good Spanish red. Paired with a few Spanish cheeses and it elevated what was already a very good wine. Balanced and subtle. Musky fruit is there but not in your face and it’s such a smooth wine.

Spicy and weighty. Lovely dark color and quite rich. Some forest on the back end. Rich fruit. This was definitely drinking well.
