Interesting wine. The nose is quince and citrus peel, tastewise there is almond, orange peel and beeswax. The only thing holding this back from greatness is a massive 16% alcohol. Brutal aftertaste that makes this more like an after dinner schnapps! After one glass i was staggering to the kitchen to make dinner. Bit of a shame but still a good wine. — 3 years ago
Smells like a fresh sea breeze, cactus/ aloo vera, tastes of almost a ghostly pear schnapps, and highly refreshing — 5 years ago
Funky top notes with undertones of peach schnapps, naval orange juice, and spiced cooked apple.... — 7 years ago
Dark inky red color. Perfumed nose of roses, hibiscus tea, cherry schnapps, and leather. Flavor is full bodied and slightly savory. Some plumy streaks balanced by cedar and spice. Hint of sweet green olives. Black licorice as well. Plenty of tannin. For 11 year old Syrah this could probably age for another 4 or 5 before it peaks. A deep, rich wine with balance and complexity. Deftly avoids the CA fruit bomb trap by offering plenty to ponder. — 8 years ago

2023 Whisky Advent Calendar, Day 23: I get a hint of those chocolates filled with a cherry and Kirsch schnapps. Very rich and warming, with mild honey and vanilla. — 3 years ago
Mellow tropical fruits, peach schnapps, lemon zest, peony, white tea, orange blossom water, sea salt. Super fresh, citrusy and floral. Nice clean finish. — 5 years ago
White peach, fresh grapes, pear schnapps and one single lychee waft from the glass..
On the palate this is surprisingly tight and focussed, and very mineral, as well!
A smoky, sweaty, stony foundation give this wine quite a masculine and serious feel. Oh. And it’s dry. 👍🏻

We've stopped in at this winery several times over the years, and going through the tastings here to us have felt hit or miss... That sounds bad, but I actually love that... Wineries that put out consistent but mundane wines lack soul in my opinion... Anyway, back to the wine at hand... The color here seems deeper and more amber than the average gewurtz... On the nose, this feels like cantaloupe, ripe peach and mineral... Is this an "orange nose"? On the palate, that stone fruit comes to life, but I'm still leaning cantaloupe here... Sage... Minerality to be sure... There's a suggestion of sweetness here that makes me wonder if in fact this is off-dry... I'm not getting as many herbal notes as is typical of gewurtz, but that sage again stands out. A dry herb feel. Why am I thinking about those peaches that have a donut shape? Medium body with less than medium acidity. I don't know what I would pair food-wise here... Is it sweet? Is it dry? A pairing is complicated... Maybe just go with a glass of wine all by itself in an Adirondack chair in the garden... The length of the finish is long almost reminiscent of Dr. McGillicuddy's peach schnapps but with a sweetness like a Bellini from Milestones back in the day. Yes. This is a Bellini finish. I actually do enjoy it. — 2 years ago

My bottle is labeled "Gran Malvasia 2016". On the nose, this is apple orchard or maybe a peach orchard where the fruit isn't ripe yet... On the palate, for me, this is a russetted golden apple... One of those rare cider varieties deep in the orchard... Apple schnapps, dry peach, sage, mineral... Dry in the mouth... Medium acidity... The finish is long and becomes buttery as time passes... This really is outstanding seven years after the vintage. — 3 years ago

Delicious and good example of the style. The partial potato mash added a great creaminess to the palate. — 10 years ago

Now that’s a “Super Tuscan” of another color! Wild, deep black cherry schnapps and mint/chocolate nose. Masserta huh.? Decanted this btl 3 hrs. following suit of others.( maybe didn’t need 3 on account of age)Silky smooth with fine tannins and acidity built in like tuck and roll upholstery. Corinthian “leather “ anyone? There have been many, many touted ST’s that pale before this.
After some time in the glass, some very Tuscan, red earththyness peeks through. Lovely stuff indeed. Perfect for a Wednesday all day Ragu w meatballs.
Thanks @FassSelections
Day 2, Licorice oomph, bigger acidic/tannin presence , all in balance. Darker…if possible. — 5 months ago
