Selektion Baden Sauvignon Blanc 2020

I am drinking through some Chards and Savs in Baden these days just to see we’re they sit. This one has the super classic New Zealand style. Grassy, grapefruit … with a the added benefit of minerality and the brightness and acidity often found in German wines. This one is not my style yet it is very good and better than NZ. — 2 years ago

Dom Pérignon

Brut Champagne Blend 2006

Strong yeasty nose, like fresh lemon bread,

Yeastiness grabs your tongue with lychee, lemon, verbana and skips rope with it, adding delightfully tight and well structured bubbles each almost popping with their own honeyed explosion. Lingering finish of all these flavors, and a few moments of reflection.

Right place at the right time. A lovely couple, about to get married - Brought over a bottle to a family celebration. Shared some wine with me, so l shared some Champagne knowledge, and of course, opened the bottle with the faintest of hiss.

Jean François Ganevat

Cuvée Marguerite Côtes du Jura Chardonnay

Magnum. Apologies for the sketch of Al's arse- we were adding our own poor taste Ganevat label. Big tension here between that lactic texture, its searing minerality and acidity. Analogue hi-fi warmth. Tape hiss and Rhodes. — 9 years ago

De Dolle Brouwers

Stille Nacht Belgian Strong Ale 2010

We were inspired by @Ira Schwartz’s post to pull one of these out. Cap reads 2010. Immediate hiss and scent of burnt caramel. Carbonation is à point. Palate is fresh—figs, brown sugar, honey, dry finish. A great winter warmer. Fun to age these. — 4 years ago

Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 2018

Pop and pour again, about 2 mo since my last btl. Notes similar to last time. This will bemefit from cellar time. The cork pushed out with a hiss, as if there was still fermentation going on in the bottle. Great spice, still bretty (but blowing off with air), and loads of interesting complexity, but a kind of "natural" leaning, which is intended, here, to have a negative connotation. Will follow over a few days, so we'll see what happens. — 3 years ago
