Ardbeg

The Ultimate Ten Years Old Single Malt Islay Scotch Whisky

My first Ardberg and it left quite an impression. Gosh! This was like eating bacon and smoking cigars. Ron Swanson should be drinking this instead of Lagavulin 😂 Truly, it feels like someone decided to bottle up that campfire by the sea that's been drenched in bacon fat from dinner the night before. With water, the marine quality becomes more apparent, but that smoke just remains. Only with great concentration can one discern some fruit notes (citrus). The finish is just all about that endless peat. Surprisingly, this whisky was quite "smooth" despite all the extremities it brought. Definitely need to taste more Ardbegs to understand what's going on - not displeasing, but for now, Talisker's more up my alley in the category of peated whiskies. — 4 years ago

Château Carbonnieux

Pessac-Léognan White Bordeaux Blend 2016

Opened another recently, legendary wine, said that in the 18th century was introduced to Sultan of Constantinople's palace b/c of its clarity and called "mineral water from Carbonnieux", defying Islamic law. Pale lemon with pronounce aromas of tropical and stone fruits with herb notes. On the palate flavors of melon, mango, apple, green herbs and a crisp mineral edge. Medium+ length, balanced acidity, ending with a fruit, citrus mineral character. Nice, aging well. — 4 years ago

PnP. Very dark purple color, almost black. Smoky, earthy nose with dark fruit. Same on the palate with a gritty texture. A very unpleasing finish as it tastes like dirty water. Outside of the awful finish, a nice wine. — 8 months ago

Uigeadail The Ultimate Islay Single Malt Scotch Whiskey 54.2% abv.

We love Islay malts in winter— Seattle reached 17° F today, so we reached for the Oog. Gorgeous bottling if a touch sweet for my palate. Threads the needle of smoky peat/malt styles very well. Best with a few drops of water to open up. — 3 years ago
