This is an intense, powerful, old-school Spanish wine that needs about three weeks' decanting before drinking. Leather, mushrooms, and quite a bit of Brett eventually give way to dried strawberries, raspberries, and roses. 100% Garnacha - could do with a bit more acidity, but has plenty of tannins from the oak. So Spanish. And all with a beautiful label. — 9 years ago
Classic old school. Nose has macerated cherry, sweet spice, old barrel scents, loamy gravel. In the mouth it’s full and a little on the leaner side, with rich dark cherry and leather, and lots of savory minerals on the finish. Tannins soft, pretty good acidity. Right over the middle of the plate. — 3 years ago
It's pretty rare that I'm this pleasantly surprised. Pretty ruby color with a really expressive nose of big ripe fruit and old school leather. Let this baby breathe for about half an hour because these notes are outstanding. There's more Old World to this besides just the name. Earthiness, rose petals, bitter tea, and fruit punch. But not in a bad way. The oak tries to overstay its welcome but fails. Just a really pretty Pinot at a crazy low price. — 8 years ago
Best yet of a case that's mostly gone. Deftly straddles old and new school Rioja. Great with food. Full of fruit and balanced with lively acidity and all the complex flavors of an old Rioja. — 9 years ago
A remarkable thing about this is the very high definition of mineral tannins, the tertiary aromas are still forming but the primary and secondary aromas all but gone, leaving bitter and sour taste of acids and tannins still dominating. Defies conventional analysis based on complexity, concentration and balance, instead offers authority, authenticity, uniqueness and unapologetically old-school. — 4 years ago
What a wonderful #wine. Wickedly good, old-school Hunter Valley Shiraz by the man himself, Len Evans. Joyously nose filling, with notes of dry black raspberries, cigar box, espresso & dark chocolate dust followed up with a lively, elegant palate that sings to a jazzy, piano beat. Electrophoretic for sure & just 12.5% alcohol. Beautiful, 19 year old vino 🍷❗️ — 8 years ago
Starts off super tight with lots of tannins. Mouth puckers. But opens up wonderfully. As noted before - this is old school stuff. Lovely. — 9 years ago
