Consumed 06/2016. Pierina Means "made of stone" which is an apt name for a wine made from the Vernaccia grape. Vernaccia is native to the hills surrounding San Gimignano in Tuscany, where it is typically crafted to display flinty, almost mineral flavors. As the only producer of Vernaccia in the United States, Viansa has chosen to take this greap in a different direction. The result is a more multi-dimensional, fruity style of wine that still stays true to its origins. Viansa ‘V’ Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005: Big. Bold. Balanced. Sophisticated soft tannins courtesy of time however the cork did break & crumble (as expected). Palate flavors of black fruits, vanilla, oak and an oh so smooth finish. After 16 years, glad to see this wine held up nicely and tasted amazingly delicious!
