A great day to sip something fabulous and French, like this 2020 Maison Joseph Drouhin Clos des Mouches. 🍷

Maison Joseph Drouhin is a dynamic, family-run estate, established by Joseph Drouhin in 1880 in the Beaune region of Burgundy.  It’s now run by Joseph’s four great-grandchildren – Philippe, Véronique, Laurent, and Frédéric – with operations spanning from Burgundy to the Dundee Hills of Willamette Valley, Oregon (Domaine Drouhin). 🫶🏻🫶🏻

This wine has a medium ruby hue and an array of aromas and flavors such as strawberry, raspberry, cherry (red and black), mulberry, rose, spice, potpourri, black licorice, forest floor, toast, vanilla bean, crème brûlée, nutmeg, star anise, cardamom, and clove.

It aged 14-18 months in French oak (25% new), lending those baking spice, vanilla, and confectionery notes.

On the palate, it is dry, with vibrant acidity, creating tension, and a medium (+) body, with warming alcohol (14% ABV), medium tannins that are polished and velveteen, and a lingering finish.

This is an outstanding wine capable of long-term aging with potential to gain complexity unveiling additional tertiary dimensions over time. 🕰️ — 4 months ago

Petit & Bajan have been one of those “growers” to watch for a few years now. A literal marriage of Chardonnay (Richard Petit) and Pinot Noir (Véronique Bajan) with some mentoring from the one and only Ansleme Selosse makes for a pretty compelling story. As it turns out, the wines are pretty darned good! Popped and poured. The “Nuit Blanche” is a BdB showcase of Petit’s family holdings in Avize with some fruits coming from Cramant and Oger as well. The wine pours a light straw color with a persistent mousse. On the nose, mix of lemon curd, white peach, limes, pear, almonds and brioche with chalky minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with really good acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with distinctive chalky minerals. This was very nice and I look foreword to tracking their wines. Bottled on July 2, 2015. Disgorged November 2021. — a year ago

Notes are from day 2. Ruby color with clear rim showing the youthfulness. Medium viscosity. On the nose, this is very elegant and perfumy. A lovely mix of strawberry, raspberry, roses, lily’s with some baking spices coming through. Confirmed on the palate and the attack remains plush with silky round mouthfeel and medium long finish with slight spiced undertones. Dry wine, medium plus acidity, medium and fine tannins, medium alcohol and medium body. The wine shows winemaker Véronique Drouhin’s dedication to elegance and finesse, and will age meaningfully for years to come. This cuvée will settle down with cellaring and I can’t wait to see how it’s story evolves over the next 5 years... — 4 years ago

Crushed lavender, cocoa powder, dried mint, underbrush, and an alluring array of red fruits lead into a wine that is medium-bodied and neatly trussed in fine tannins. Cat piss, citrus and a bit of chalk too. Interesting. The palate is well balanced with a strong acid frame but a bright citrusy fruit too. Some chalky texture in the sides make for an easy going wine! The finish is all chalk and citrus for a long ride. Cool stuff! — 5 years ago
