The 2020 Pinot Nero is such a pretty and finessed varietal expression that mixes alpine herbs with wild strawberries and crushed rocks. It’s elegant with silky textures that usher in masses of lavender-tinged black cherries and spices, as juicy acidity maintains fantastic balance. The 2020 leaves a coating of fruit concentration along with sweet tannins that add a gentle grip, promising a steady evolution. That said, there is no harm in drinking this today. The 2019 Rocca di Montegrossi Rosato is gorgeous, both spicy and floral, with zesty bright cherry and a hint of grapefruit. On the palate, silky, soothing textures usher in ripe red fruits offset by vibrant acids, as hints of sweet spice and salty minerals buzz on the senses. The finish is medium in length and remarkably fresh. (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2020)

Talk about a happy surprise, as my first Australian Nebbiolo, courtesy of Stephen Pannell and the Adelaide Hills, lifts from the glass in a gorgeous display, showing bright cherry, peppery herbs, both rosy and violet florals, hints of tobacco, and cedar shavings. On the palate, silky textures usher in petty red berry fruits, seeming to hover across the senses with ease, turning more to cranberry and savory spice, as a mix of round tannin and minerals settle in. The finish is long, echoing tart red fruits with a tug of grippy tannin, yet not overpowering, instead in perfect harmony, as pretty inner florals and spice linger. — 6 years ago

Light, crisp wine. Pear, citrus, floral notes. A great way to say goodby to summer and usher in fall. — 7 years ago
2015. By the time we added this delicious Burgundy to the table while we were still enjoying the Diel Extra Brut Sekt and the R. Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Gran Reserva Rosato it created a perfect spectrum of colors and flavors to match the dishes prepared by the Boiler Room chefs. 2019 vintage. Elegant and French. Silky. Fruit and earth in balance. Wonderful way to usher in 2023. Enjoyed with New Year’s Eve pressed duck dinner at Pasjoli in Santa Monica, with Nai Nai and Robert. — 3 years ago
The 2019 Fiano Terre di Dora impresses with dried flowers, incense and almond paste complemented by peach and mango notes. Silky contours usher in mineral-tinged white stone fruits, zesty green citrus and exotic spice. While gorgeous already, the 2019 offers good near-potential. $19.00 (Eric Guido, Vinous, September 2021) — 5 years ago
Ripe crushed cherries, blueberry skins, savory herbs, earthy minerals and a hint of animal musk, come together to form an alluring bouquet on the 2015 Lavinea Elton. On the palate, soft, fleshy textures usher in an array or ripe dark fruits, yet perfectly balanced by juicy acids and lifting minerals which saturate the senses, making for a pliant but also zesty expression of Oregon Pinot. The finish is long and spicy, with a tactile hint of youthful tannins. What a pleasurable glass of Pinot. — 6 years ago
Crushed plums, cherries, and blueberries are offset by spiced orange and a hint of tangerine, then further complemented by hints of rosemary, tomato leaf, and finally, animal musk; this only begins to describe the layered bouquet on the 2013 Luigi Tecce Taurasi. On the palate, soft textures usher in fleshy red fruits and citrus-kissed herbal tones, as subtle tannins slowly collect on the senses. Its structure shows mostly through the long, dramatic finish, tugging at the cheeks and drying, yet all you need to do is take another sip to refresh the experience. Frankly, I don’t see this vintage aging decades in the cellar. There’s a bit of a rustic edginess here, yet the 2013 is beautiful today and sure to provide many years of pleasure. Il Poggione 2015 Brunello di Montalcino offers up a dark, earthy, almost animal-like expression, showing black soil and undergrowth, giving way to crushed black cherry, dusty spice, and dried florals which lift the experience. On the palate, soft, fleshy textures usher in fresh cherry and strawberry, as brisk acids add energy, with savory herbs and minerals saturating, as the 2015 Il Poggione’s fruit nearly masks its structural core. The finish is long yet fresh, with classic, fine tannins, dried red fruits and pretty inner floral tones lingering throughout this perfectly balanced expression. The 2015 s pure class and built for the cellar. (Eric Guido, Vinous, April 2020)

Ruby running to garnet, color. Earthy nose, brush, pine. We are way early of course. Sharp, bitter cut on the flowers, wood present, tannins still quite chalky and harsh. But this will be amazing with time. Alcohol and acidity will usher this wine into another dimension. I would give this another 2-3 years. You can drink it now at a score of 92+, but, hold out for 95. @Antonio Galloni will this make the cut for the future Barolo event?

Black cherries mix with a spice box of autumnal aromas, camphor and smoke to create a captivating display as the 2016 Montefalco Rosso Riserva opens up in the glass. Its silky textures usher in a polished display of red fruits laced with sweet inner florals, all framed nicely by saline-minerality. Tart berries, licorice and a hint of wild herbs linger long through the lightly structured but also slightly bitter finale. The 2016 Riserva is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Sagrantino. The 2019 Bonavita Rosato is an incredibly deep ruby color, so much so that you might mistake it for a red. On the nose, I’m finding an alluring mix of crushed cherries, offset by tangerine, rose petals, and the slightest hint of exotic savory spice. On the palate, soft textures usher in a remarkably pure expression of floral-laced red fruits and minerals, as it seems to hover across the senses over a core of vibrant acidity with hints of ginger and a gentle tug of tannin. The long finish is fresh but also showing a youthful structure, leading me to believe that this might be even better if given some time to unwind in the cellar. This blend of Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, and Nocera is really quite stunning. (Eric Guido, Vinous, May 2020) — 6 years ago
The Renieri 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is dark and intense in its aromatics, displaying a mix of earthy mineral and soil tones, offset by crushed black cherry, savory herbs, leather, and spice. On the palate, soft, fleshy textures usher in ripe cherry fruits, offset by a mix of brisk acids and saturating minerals, as hints of exotic spice buzz upon the senses, leaving a coating of fine tannin in their wake. The finish is long and structured, flexing its hulky tannins, as only a hint of dried black cherry, minerals, and spice linger. The 2015 Renieri needs time and lots of it, but I believe its primary fruit and acids will one day tame the massive structure that is currently dominating the wine’s personality. Crafted from fully destemmed grapes, the elegant and polished 2020 Saint-Joseph totally delivers. Violets, black cherry, raspberry and discrete cedar usher in. Ripe tannins structure this medium-bodied and concentrated Saint-Joseph that maintains its elegant profile right through to the refined finale. (Nicolas Greinacher, Vinous, March 2024)
