Fantastic, old school, rustic Carignan that went great with spicy tomato sauce. Sends a jolt of wild berry and tart cherry across the palate, tight and wound up like a drum. Very tense, quite tannic, this needs either time or lots of air, and food is a must. The finish and the overall impression lingers quite nicely. This bottle generated conversation around the table, got people's attention. This is exactly what is needed when it's needed. Tons of charm. — 5 years ago

@Tanuki. Tastes of two sweet love making sessions on a Friday afternoon. Blair loves, a lot, and then more. Spicy miso pretty spicy. Moving to 884 for 6!weeks. Go Bucks O-H ! — 8 years ago
A definite 94 tonight, with some stiff competition but still held itself well and was several people's WOTN. This wine is a darker expression of cab at this point. Lots of blackberry cassis, blueberry, and truffle in the entry and middle. The wine seemed to almost get a little more youthful in the middle and finish, and I was very glad that it was enjoyed tonight along with a 99 Rudd, a 98 Phelps Bacchus, and a 95 Togni. This wine will continue to benefit from some additional time in the bottle. Very happy that I opened this one tonight for the group. Compared to the Levante, this Ponente seemed to express itself much earlier without as much of a decant. — 8 years ago

From peloponnes, subtle but present cantaloupe!! Harmonic, herbal, mineral. A unbelievable wonderful companion to Greek midnight sessions! — 5 years ago
Creamy, cherry, medium+ body, very very drinkable I.e. noted to self this is a good ‘sessions’ wine. This was wine I bought on my 1st trip to Pittsburgh re living there — 8 years ago

As I poured this wine the smell of roses hit my nose, with a swish of light-bodied wine in the cup. The palate was quenched with sweet ripe blackberry flavors and juicy zest — 5 years ago
Lurrvvvv it, okurrrr. That brightness is snatched with a tight pear almond bod with a finish that’s a little petrol-y. Perfect for extended charcuterie sessions — 5 years ago
Can we give this a high five? It’s supple and also muscular like a power yogi who doesn’t need to end their sessions with an om. Ripe honey (probably not a thing but I feel it), and pickled golden delicious apple skins (also not a thing but whatevs) and goodness it is strong but smooth. It coats the mouth with a a slight kick. Chill and ready but fast moving. Ashtanga Fiano. — 6 years ago
Second winery on day two in Sonoma was Hanzell Vineyards with Whitney. Last wine was the Hanzell Pinot Noir, which is their flagship Pinot Noir bottling. All the fruit comes from three of their estate vineyards with an average age of 26 years; de Brye, Sessions and Ambassador's 1953 vineyards. This bottling is fermented for a five-day cold soak and 10% is whole cluster. Aged for 18 months in 63% new French oak barrels (60 gallon).
Medium garnet red with light ruby edges. Love the nose, like a true high-end Burgundian Pinot Noir. Layered with cedar, spices, sandalwood, raspberries, tobacco, purple flowers, white pepper and a touch of dark citrus. Medium plus acidity (7/10) and medium plus bodied. Elegant yet balanced with cherries, red berries, spices, Provencal herbs and forest floor. Long and never-ending finish. Drink till 2035.
$$$ - Tasted at the winery. Retail price is $98.00. — 8 years ago

I have been a Lewis fan for years. Glad to finally see them get the accolades they deserve, being listed as Wine Spectators top rated Wine of the Year 2017. Unassuming and dedicated to making the best wine every year, the have quietly been making it to the top of a lot of other people's list. This is the Reserve, so it is a great plus to their regular Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep and dark, plums and licorice, and a lingering finish. The nose is amazing. Decanted for 2 hours, it was perfect with the bone in filet. — 9 years ago

Can’t rate. Maybe the wine is in a weird spot or my palate was affected by the 4 sessions of snow shoveling, but if I had a blindfold on I would have thought this was a red. Somewhat restrained on the palate with lots of steel elements and some earth. Color was great, as was the cork, so must be me. Usually one of my favorites! — 5 months ago
